Meet our valued team members

At DOTS, our staff are our most valuable asset. With an average of 15 years’ experience, our team is committed to professional development and evidence-based interventions. We actively participate in professional events and volunteer with national professional reference groups to stay at the forefront of our field.

Beth Dermer

DOTS Allied Health is owned and managed by Beth Dermer (Occupational Therapist).

Beth maintains a clinical caseload and is active in the OT world. She volunteers for the OT Australia Veteran Affairs National Reference Group and the National Professional Practice and Standards Committee. She is also the national representative on behalf of OT Australia for Veteran Affairs providers.

On a personal note – I have a passion for travel and have trekked in Nepal, explored Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan and adventured around Europe. I would love for my kids to grow up wanting to explore and learn. I live in south-east Brisbane with my husband and two kids (and one flown the nest).

I enjoy running our very specialised service – with no intentions of creating a mega-service where patients and staff become faceless and the work becomes formulaic.

Graduating from La Trobe University (Melbourne) in 1997, Beth later completing post-graduate education in Clinical Education (Charles Sturt University) and Neurological Rehabilitation (La Trobe University).

Beth has held senior clinical positions in teaching hospitals in NSW and QLD. She currently holds status as Lecturer with Griffith University and has previously held the role of Honorary Affiliate with Charles Sturt University and Associate Lecturer with the University of Queensland in recognition of services to Clinical Education.

Her background is in working with adults with neurological damage and in physical rehabilitation and has taught within these specialties at Charles Sturt University, La Trobe University and within Queensland Health.
Since starting DOTS, her specialty has shifted to community-based OT (chronic disease) and in particular, management of venous insufficiency (lower limb).

As a manager, Beth deliberately maintains a flat staffing structure on the understanding that every clinician brings value to the team. Staff are highly valued for their experience and professionalism and are given the autonomy to maximise that within their work environment.

It was during this time that I developed a deep passion for understanding that each person’s recovery journey is unique. I learned the importance of being flexible as a professional, tailoring my approach to meet each individual’s needs in a holistic way. My focus was on supporting mental health, physical injuries, and community engagement.

In 2019 I continued working in the community sector and commenced supporting NDIS participants and older adults. This further expanded my experience across different areas.

What Motivates Me About OT:
I love that occupational therapy is all about the individual – each person’s journey is unique. I am motivated by the opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life, whether that’s helping them gain independence or making daily tasks easier. I go at each person’s pace, and I am happy to support them at their pace – no matter how fast or slow that may be.

Areas of Passion & Expertise:
I am passionate about community-based occupational therapy, particularly working with veterans and older adults. My expertise is in supporting people through both physical and mental health challenges, with a strong focus on improving their quality of life, independence, and confidence.
